Frequently Asked Questions
More information about the infrastructure supporting NuCast services.
Where are NuCast's U.K. data centres located?
NuCast uses infrastructure across London, two separate Coventry facilities and Maidenhead in the United Kingdom, with additional infrastructure available in North Carolina in the United States.
What infrastructure is available at Maidenhead?
Maidenhead is a purpose-built Tier 3 facility providing 2,800 m² of space across nine data halls. Its infrastructure includes dual diverse 11kV supplies, N+1 UPS and generator systems, three diverse fibre routes, redundant cooling and 24/7/365 on-site operations.
How resilient is the Maidenhead power infrastructure?
Maidenhead has two diverse 8 MVA 11kV supplies, providing 16 MVA of incoming power capacity. Backup infrastructure includes six 1.5 MVA diesel generators in an N+1 configuration together with redundant UPS systems. Generator capacity is designed for approximately 36 hours of operation at full occupancy.
How is the Maidenhead facility secured?
Physical security includes 24/7/365 staffed operations, proximity-card or biometric access to data halls, a three-metre secure perimeter and internal and external CCTV monitoring.
Does NuCast use more than one Coventry facility?
Yes. Coventry 1 and Coventry 2 are separate data centre facilities. Coventry 1 is an established two-data-hall facility, while Coventry 2 is a newer purpose-built high-capacity facility with advanced power, cooling and connectivity infrastructure.
Why does NuCast use multiple data centre locations?
Using multiple facilities gives us greater flexibility when deploying services and allows infrastructure to be placed within facilities suited to different workloads and network requirements.
How is infrastructure physically secured?
Security measures vary between facilities and include monitored CCTV, controlled access systems, secure compounds, biometric or smart-card access and on-site personnel.
Are engineers available on site?
Selected facilities provide 24/7 on-site engineering or technical coverage, allowing physical hardware issues to be investigated without relying solely on remote access.
